Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a professional with background in physics, scientific/mathematical modeling, aerospace / electrical engineering, or related physical science for application to modeling the effects of nuclear weapons on missile defense and space-based systems. The successful applicant will contribute to ARA’s support to the Missile Defense Agency in the modeling and simulation of ballistic missile defense systems (BMDS). Areas of emphasis include radiation effects on interceptors and satellites, radar and communications system performance, battle management and planning algorithms, BMDS architecture analysis and trade studies, and system sensitivity analysis.
Desired software experience includes FORTRAN, C++, Visual Studio, python and other scripting languages, working with large data sets, graphical presentation skills, software configuration management, and MS Office applications. Responsibilities will include supporting a government-housed software simulation environment, software maintenance and development; performing analysis, creating analysis summaries and briefing materials; working remotely with developers and subject matter experts; and customer interaction at MDA. Good communications skills and an ability to work in a (distributed) team environment are essential.

Nuclear Effects Modeling and Simulation Analyst Required Skills:
- U.S. Citizenship Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline relevant to modeling and analysis of nuclear weapons effects and military systems along with 2-4 years of experience in a field related to system analysis, experimental and scientific methods and/or engineering applications.
- Software programming, including FORTRAN or C++
- Knowledge of principles, concepts, and techniques of scientific analysis, statistics and mathematical methodologies
- Ability to collaborate and interact with coworkers and government personnel
