As part of our program, you will support the Federal Government and Regulatory Affairs Team, which represents the company and its business units on Capitol Hill and within the executive branch. In this role, you will gain hands on experience in clean energy and utility policy and political matters; apply knowledge and skills learned in college; and participate in the day-to-day operations of a D.C. office. Duties may include covering congressional hearings, briefings or trade association meetings; analyzing legislation or regulations; assisting the government or regulatory affairs team with research, writing activities, and meeting preparations; examining emerging energy trends, opportunities, or challenges; and other projects as determined timely by the team. The ideal candidate is interested in a career at the intersection between clean energy and policy, has strong communication and problem-solving skills, a disciplined work ethic, and enjoys taking on new challenges.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Participate in an internship program where you will contribute to a variety of lobbying, policy and political tasks in support of AVANGRID’s D.C. team.
  • Contribute to projects that advance AVANGRID’s vision to be the leading sustainable energy company in the U.S.
  • Work with the team to support advocacy initiatives.
  • Draft correspondence, talking points and background materials for use by the government affairs team.
  • Attend congressional briefings, hearing and trade association meetings and provide concise reports on the discussions.
  • Work with the governmental and regulatory affairs team to develop your legislative and regulatory policy and political skills.
  • Work in an innovative and energized environment with a chance to make an impact.
  • Create a comprehensive presentation of your work completed during the program for presentation to the wider organization at the conclusion of the program.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Currently a sophomore or junior pursuing a Bachelor’s in Government / Political Science, Law, Energy/Environment, Climate, Renewables, Utilities)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without the requirement for future sponsorship
