Behind the Book works in NYC public schools, providing rich, innovative literacy programs to Title 1 classrooms. Working with students from Pre-K to 12th grades, Behind the Book identifies culturally responsive books and partners with teachers to create immersive programs that bring the authors of those books into classrooms. Through a series of workshops, authors discuss their book and teach a genre of writing, encouraging students to see themselves as readers and writers.
Behind the Book seeks a Fundraising Intern to assist with the organization’s fundraising events and promotions. The position is ideal for a go-getter with excellent communication skills, who wants to be an integral part of growing Behind the Book’s donor base and public profile. The position will be based at our Harlem office and/or remotely.
The commitment is June-August. You may be required to come into the office, depending on how/when NYC opens up. This position is paid – $15/hour.
- Assisting with preparation for fundraising events
- Assisting with donor communications, including thank you letters;
- Research donors and new funding streams, including individuals, corporations and foundations;
- Drafting content to promote fundraising events on Behind the Book’s website and in our newsletter;
- Profiling and thanking donors and volunteers on Behind the Book’s website and in our newsletter and on social media;
- Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will be someone who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. The intern will report to the Director of Development.
