REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of the position’s essential duties. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: Maintains records of a variety of financial data; records financial transactions in both subsidiary and general ledgers; reconciles accounts and prepares trial balances; maintains ledgers for control of trust fund deposits; makes deposits; prepares request for payments to the City; receives payments by mail or over the counter; issues receipts; balances receipts against other records and documents as scheduled; answers routing questions on department procedures to the public by phone, mail, or in person; audits employee time reports and verifies totals; inputs payroll information to the information system; assists with departmental budget preparation; performs record keeping and verification tasks involved in payment of vendor’s claims against the City including auditing invoices, discounts allowed and account distribution; prepares claim vouchers and journal vouchers; sets up and carries out collection; collects delinquent accounts by mail or phone; pre-audits purchase orders and stores orders; audits and refunds bid deposits; prepares a variety of financial reports, some of a complex nature; maintains records relating to public improvement bonds including issuing notices, collecting payments and making payments to bond holders; answers questions from many sources related to work; utilizes a personal computer for related applications.

Accounting Clerk I
- Graduated from high school or GED program
- One (1) year of experience in performing financial, statistical, fiscal or related record keeping work.
Accounting Clerk II
- Requires an additional (2) years of the above experience and appropriate course work or training
- Must be able to pass a background check
Highly Desirable Experience:
- Customer service and call center experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Accounts Payable experience
- 10-Key Certificate: If you are proficient in 10-key data entry, submit a copy of a current 10-key certificate dated within the last 2 years of the filing deadline certifying a minimum of 8,000 keystrokes per hour (kph). OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Methods, practices, documents and terminology used in financial record keeping work; bookkeeping and elementary accounting; modern office practices; personal computer applications related to work; operation of standard office equipment used in a financial office. Ability to: Make computations and tabulations and review fiscal and related documents rapidly and accurately; make decisions of a limited nature in accordance with laws, rules, regulations and department procedures; carry out and comply with oral and written instructions; maintain a variety of fiscal records and prepare accurate reports; work effectively with the public and City employees at the counter, over the telephone and via mail contacts; type and operate a personal computer. WRITTEN EXAMINATION: (Weighted: Pass/Fail) Week of November 29, 2021 (Tentative) Questions may be related to office and business mathematics, bookkeeping, name and number matching, public contact and communication, and excel spreadsheet skills. NOTE: Only the TOP passing written scores will be allowed to participate in the Oral Appraisal Interview.
ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW: (Weighted 100%) Week of December 6, 2021 (Tentative) An appraisal will be made of the applicant’s education, training, experience, and personal qualifications for the position. Minimum rating of 70% is required. NOTE: Admission to the examination(s) may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination. Employment applications must be properly completed in accordance with instructions on face of application form. All pertinent information needed to determine that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications must be shown on the City application, supplemental questionnaire, resume and certificates; otherwise, the application will be rejected.
