Accounting Assistant Job Specification:
Under direction performs preliminary accounting work involved in preparing financial records and in
maintaining an accounting system; does other related duties.
Examples of Work
Assists Comptroller in maintaining the financial reporting and operations of the Parking Utility. This will
consist of work in the areas of office administrative tasks, data entry, spreadsheet preparation, spreadsheet
presentation, data reporting (financial & other). Assist with determining and maintaining accounting
practices of the Parking Utility. Work in general ledger as it relates to the purchasing cycle, revenue cycle
and recurring and adhoc reporting. Maintain vendor relationships for administrative, billing and as needed.
Will assist in the projects of technology upgrades
-Posting revenue and budget appropriation entries to the general ledger
-Become lead contact on chosen vendor relationships for utilities, fuel, document management credit
-Creating and maintaining Excel files for analysis, reporting and record keeping
-Completing data exports and Excel driven data manipulation to analyze and complete management
-Assist in fixed asset reviews utilizing spreadsheets and summary memos in Word
-Gain understanding of the operations of the Parking Utility like products sold, programs, locations
-Assist in preparing monthly financial reports for management analysis
-Manage analysis for vendor invoices –Maintain Fixed Asset Inventory
-Assist in bank recs, office organization, surveys, vendor history analysis and creating PowerPoint
-Adopting new methods in technology for vendor communications, file management, communications
Satisfactory completion of at least sixty (60) semester hour credits at an accredited college or university
including a minimum of twelve (12) semester hour credits in accounting courses. College degree but may
be substituted for two (2) years of the above experience.
NOTE: Satisfactory completion of twelve (12) semester hour credits in accounting courses at an
accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in phases of auditing and accounting
operations may be substituted for the required education.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
-Knowledge of the work involved in the general fields of accounting and auditing
-Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, and equipment.
-Knowledge of the internal organization and established
policies, procedures, and regulations relative to the work of the
department or autonomous government agency.
-Knowledge of problems involved in the formulation of effective policies and procedures for the office
and other clerical and related operations.
-Ability to learn principles, procedures, and techniques used in accounting work and to apply these to
-Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately and with reasonable speed.
-Ability to learn various business machines commonly used in accounting and auditing work.
-Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
-Ability to supervise the preparation of statistical and other reports
containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
-Ability to supervise the establishment and maintenance
of records and files.
-Ability to comprehend established office and other
clerical and related routines and rules and regulations of
complexity in a relatively large organization.
-Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective

-Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
-Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
