Camp Director is responsible for assisting in the coordination, organization, supervision and directing of a complete recreational day camp program. This position is responsible for the safety and supervision of staff and campers ranging in age from five to eleven years of age.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
- Assists the Recreational Supervisor in the planning, preparation and organization of well-diversified and structured recreational programs for campers that range in ages from five to eleven years of age. Programs and activities may include arts and crafts, drama, life sports, mental linguistics, dance, and music.
- Oversees the day-to-day camp activities including but not limited to assisting camp counselors with activities and programs, teaching camp activities, maintaining daily attendance and activity records and reports and safety of the campers. May attend weekly staff meetings to coordinate lesson plans for the following week.
- Responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of weekly lesson plans.
- Responsible for the maintenance and inventory of camp supplies and equipment.
- May conduct on the job informal training and coaching for camp counselors and aides in order to assess their skills and determine areas that are in need of improvement.
- Supervises counselors and counselor aides including but not limited to preparing job tasks and overseeing interaction with campers.
- May be required to make decisions regarding inclement weather, in regards to camp activities, which may warrant cancelling participation or seeking shelter.
- Responsible for maintaining order and discipline amongst campers; safeguarding their health and safety at all times while the camper is participating in camp activities.
- Wears approved attire at all times.
- Reports to scheduled work shifts on time.
- Attends required meeting and training sessions.
- Employee may be asked by the supervisor or acting supervisor to perform other duties that are not listed but are essential to the job.

- Ability to make rational decisions efficiently during variable and sometime stressful conditions, including the ability to calmly interact with the public and other City personnel.

- Standard office procedures, systems, and practices including the use of a computer and computer software.
- Must have adequate environmental tolerance, including the ability to work in high temperatures and confining work spaces.
Education, Training, and Certification Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have experience in working with children. Experience may include but not limited to providing childcare, teaching and/or working as a Camp Counselor.
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain a CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate.
