Summary/Objective

The Pool Manager oversees pre-season preparation, daily operations, and post season closure of the Leawood Aquatic Center.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

  • Oversees the operation of the aquatic center on a day-to-day basis including but not limited to preparing the pool for opening and closing, setting up equipment, cash operations, concessions, repairs, water chemistry and ordering of supplies.
  • Assists in the coordination of pool use with swim/dive team and day camp programs.
  • Responsible for the supervision and evaluation of aquatics seasonal employees including but not limited to preparing work schedules, approving electronic time sheet, entering the correct job code, and issuing and distributing staff uniforms.
  • Prepares and monitors reports on daily attendance, weather conditions, injuries and patron comments. Keeps the Aquatics & Special Events Supervisor apprised of all reports.
  • Responsible for depositing concession, recreation and pool receipts each night after verifying deposit reports and keeps accurate records of all pool and concession receipts. Responsible for balancing cash drawers on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for pool emergency systems and coordination of emergency drills.
  • Maintains proper water chemistry through monitoring automated equipment, checking chemical readings according to the designated schedule, maintaining and refilling chemical feeders and manually adding chemicals as needed.
  • Performs minor housekeeping tasks including but not limited to unclogging toilets, sinks, maintenance on chemical feeder in pool area and prepares maintenance work orders for major repairs in a timely manner. Keeps Aquatics & Special Events Supervisor apprised of maintenance issues and items in need of fixing.
  • Responsible for monitoring operations at the concession stand.
  • Wears approved attire at all times.
  • Reports to scheduled work shifts on time.
  • Attends required meeting and training sessions.
  • Employee may be asked by the supervisor or acting supervisor to perform other duties that are not listed but are essential to the job.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with the public.
  • Ability to use safe work practices while on the job.
  • Ability to protect and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines with effective results.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language with proper spelling and grammar to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make decisions in the best interest of both the patron and the city.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain steady communication.
  • Ability to make rational decisions efficiently during variable and sometime stressful conditions, including the ability to calmly interact with the public and other City personnel.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, changes and directives effectively.
  • Standard office procedures, systems, and practices including the use of a computer and computer software.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must have adequate environmental tolerance, including the ability to work in high temperatures and confining work spaces.

Education, Training, and Certification Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of older.
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent education, one year of college or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Must have supervisory experience with a minimum of one (1) year experience as Assistant Pool Manager or equivalent.
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a CPR Certificate, First Aid Certificate and Lifeguard Training Certificate.
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator and WSI certification preferred.
