Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research facility on Long Island’s North Shore, is searching for a professional individual to provide administrative and secretarial support to a group of scientific researchers. This position requires the candidate to exercise discretion and independent judgment in investigating and resolving issues on behalf of researcher.
Job responsibilities will include maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings, appointments, making travel arrangements, travel reimbursements, updating web sites, assisting with scientific publication submissions, maintaining publication databases, and assisting with oversight of expenses and budgets. In addition, the administrator will assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications and progress reports. Other responsibilities will include arranging seminar series including schedules and reimbursement for visiting speakers. Also preparing original correspondence, maintaining files, answering phones, handling mail and ordering supplies.
Position RequirementsEducation: Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 4 to 5 years of related administrative experience required as well as exceptional organizational, time management, communication and PC skills, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Outlook (Familiarity with MAC OS X, Canvas, FileMaker Pro, & Endnote is helpful). Experience with submission of federal grants for scientific research and familiarity with scientific/ technical terminology is helpful.
