Compensation: $13.50/hour (approximately $18,000)

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 35 hours per week
Format: In-person and/or hybrid, depending upon the status of the pandemic
Scope of Position
The intern will assist with the development and production of compelling and engaging interpretive materials in the DMA galleries. Projects may include prototyping and producing content for digital interactives, web-based resources, or in-gallery guides. As a member of the Exhibitions and Interpretation team, the intern will assist with multiple exhibitions in various planning stages as well as ongoing initiatives in the permanent collection galleries. The intern will have regular opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in Curatorial and Education. For at least one exhibition, the intern will serve as the primary interpretive reviewer, exchanging revisions with both the Head of Interpretation and the content creator.
Internship Goals
- Understand the museum exhibitions process by collaborating on multiple exhibitions in different stages of their development
- Learn how prototyping and visitor evaluation impacts interpretive strategies
- Understand the role of interpretation within an art museum and the continuous exchange of information, collaboration, and negotiation between departments
- Grow skills in editing and revision, contributing to the creation and implementation of engaging gallery didactics on a deadline
- Develop professional communication and interpersonal skills through collaboration with museum colleagues
- Understand the relationship between all the departments within the Dallas Museum of Art and how they function together to comprise the organization
Requirements
- Completion of at least an undergraduate degree in art history or a related field prior to the start of the internship in August 2021
- Proficiency in Spanish encouraged
- Ability to juggle multiple assignments
- Ability to work successfully within deadlines
- Experience in research and evaluation preferred
