Eliada Homes in Asheville, NC is seeking to hire a part-time/as needed (PRN) Residential Counselor to provide individualized treatment to our student population while maintaining a supportive and therapeutic environment. This position is integral to the successful treatment of the children in our residential mental health treatment programs. Our PRN Residential Counselors earn a competitive wage. ABOUT ELIADA HOMES We work with children of all ages who are considered at-risk, in foster care, or in mental health treatment. We provide a cradle to career continuum of services for over 700 children and youth annually. In partnership with families, we meet basic needs and provide positive child and youth development programming to all ages. We also have high-level intervention and prevention services for children and adolescents that focus on social and emotional well-being, life skills development, career readiness, and trauma-informed treatment. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR The day-to-day life of a PRN Residential Counselor can be extremely rewarding, but with any reward comes challenges. A typical day includes supervising our teenage students in a mental health facility, facilitating activities and engaging the students throughout the day, and managing crises. You ensure the safety, security, and health of our students by providing constant monitoring and supervision. When necessary, you thoroughly and effectively utilize the agency’s crisis intervention model, including the performing physical restraint techniques. In the safe and therapeutic environment that you provide, you teach anger management, social skills, and coping skills to our students. You actively participate in the creation and daily implementation of individualized treatment and teaching plans. You meet regularly with the leadership staff and implement suggested feedback to ensure proper implementation of the Eliada Model including crisis and teaching plans for each student. This position offers an outlet for creativity with activities that allow you to bring your strengths and interests to the students in your care. You plan and implement structured and therapeutic activities and promote active student participation. Because of all the time you spend with these teens, you are able to develop healthy and meaningful staff/student relationships as they grow and progress within the program. You love making a positive impact in the lives of the teens that you serve. QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent21 years old or olderMust successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all phases of an intensive pre-service training workshop that includes physical restraint training.A bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field is preferred, but not required. Previous relatable work experience is a plus!WORK SCHEDULE This mental health position requires a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, emergencies, and extended periods of time.
