Since opening our New York office in 1987, Enterprise has created or preserved more than 50,000 affordable homes for 132,000 residents, and has committed over $2.5 billion in equity, grants, and loans to community development projects.
Enterprise’s Economic Mobility and Public Housing VISTA member will work with the economic mobility and public housing teams to expand related programming, which integrates cross-team strategies, fosters the development and implementation of housing-based solutions for the most vulnerable New Yorkers, and supports agencies to preserve public housing as green, resilient, and healthy housing where residents can access broader services.
To this end, Enterprise’s Economic Mobility and Public Housing VISTA member will work with the public housing team to expand our public housing preservation program and support the development and implementation of the economic mobility platform.
The economic mobility and public housing VISTA will focus on at least three key programmatic priorities: engaging stakeholders and capturing lessons learned; support preservation and capacity building efforts for housing authorities and providers in New York State; and develop cross-disciplinary initiatives within Enterprise to benefit public and affordable housing communities.
The Economic Mobility and Public Housing VISTA member will support the preservation of public housing and the development and implementation of the economic mobility platform through the following activities:
1. Support stakeholder and resident engagement
a. Help to organize and draft materials for affordable and public housing-related stakeholder and resident engagement meetings.
b. Collaboratively develop strategies for engaging residents living in affordable and public housing, related to housing stability, asset building, and workforce development.
2. Connection to services and opportunity
a. Identify opportunities to organize workshops/trainings for community-based organizations and partners related to the rollout of the PACT program in New York City.
b. Support the refinement and development of programming that enhances the economic mobility and quality of life for New Yorkers with low incomes.
3. Understand unmet needs related to public housing preservation.
a. Support the New York State Preservation Opportunity Program with local governments outside New York City.
4. Research best practices related to resident engagement, service delivery, economic opportunity, and public housing preservation.
5. Capture program impact.
Ability to function collaboratively within a diverse team. Organizational and project management. Analytical, research, and written communication skills. Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, producing quality products under deadlines. Competence with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Enthusiasm, flexibility, a self-driven nature, and creativity.
Education Level: College graduate
This is a yearlong paid position working through the AmeriCorps VISTA program effective December 7, 2020 – December 3, 2021.
The annual rate is $20,641 is provided through the VISTA program, as are additional benefits which are outlined in the VISTA Member Handbook https://www.vistacampus.gov/lessons/vista-member-handbook Enterprise will be offering the following subsides to help support the VISTA salary:
• Monthly MetroCard = $1,536/VISTA/year
• Food Gift Cards = $200/month
• Housing Subsidy = $350/month
