This position is based in Madison, WI. The EHS Intern will assist the EHS Manager, EHS Supervisor, EHS Specialists, EHS Coordinators and cross functional teams to improve safety culture and to meet/exceed regulatory and corporate policy requirements. The position is intended to be a part-time opportunity for an Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Engineering undergraduate to obtain hands-on EHS experience with a wide variety of tasks while contributing to the company’s overall goals and objectives.
Essential Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Assisting in the development, maintenance, and implementation of EHS written and training programs.
- Creating and reviewing JSA (Job Safety Analysis) with cross-functional groups.
- Performing Ergonomic Risk Assessments and evaluations.
- Performing New Hire Orientation Training and other EHS training, as needed.
- Completing safety and hazardous waste storage area inspections.
- Participating in site level Risk Assessments.
- Co-leading a Safety Committee and working with Safety Committee team members.
- Performing annual chemical inventory review.
- Supporting daily EHS activities, such as audits, incident investigations, and corrective action and preventative action determination and implementation.
- Performing noise level monitoring and noise level mapping.
- Certifying chemical fume hoods
- Ability to communicate, work with cross functional team members, organize daily and long-term work goals, time-management, and multitasking.

- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to work set hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.
- Ability to work overtime, as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 20 % of a typical working day.
- Ability to work seated for approximately 90 % of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
- Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
- Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
- Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.
