Position OverviewThe Laboratory Automation Intern assists in providing technical engineering support for a variety of process automation hardware, software applications, and laboratory instruments. This position works directly with members of the Laboratory System Development team to enhance existing workflows and develop automated solutions and improvements for a complex, quality focused clinical laboratory.Essential Dutiesinclude but are not limited to the following:· Assemble and evaluate concept solutions with technical teams.· Prepare concept design documents and specifications as required.· Work within the labs to identify process improvements in the automation equipment.· Trouble shooting for existing equipment.· Assist with user requirements, factory acceptance test (FAT) and initial installation and set-up of new automation systems.· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.· Have demonstrated ability to follow procedures and maintain detailed records.· Have demonstrated ability to manage time and competing priorities.· Must be highly motivated and able to work both independently and as a member of a team.· Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy, and reliability of data.· Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.· Adaptable, open to change, and able to appropriately escalate issues when encountering unexpected circumstances.· Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; including the ability to easily convey concepts and priorities, as well as an ability to solicit feedback and inputs.· Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.· Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.· Regular and reliable attendance.· Ability to work a designated schedule.· Standing/sitting for extended periods of time may be required.· Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 15% of a typical working day.Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 60% of a typical working day.Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.Minimum Qualifications· Pursuing an Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Electronics, or related field.· Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.· Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.· Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.Preferred Qualifications· Working knowledge of robotics and PLC programming.· Experience with CAD software (Solidworks preferred).· Working knowledge of industrial automation.· Interest of laboratory operations.· Basic understanding of CAP/CLIA.
