DescriptionThe UI/UX design intern will join a team of UX designers and web developers, on the Information & Technology (ITM) group to update and maintain the design system for the Division of Monetary Affairs. Our design system is slated to be used across dozens of internal sites and we are looking to make it the main standard of web design and usability in the Division. This internship is an opportunity to help us grow our design system by evaluating our products for new potential components, and working to incorporate them in our system. This is a great opportunity for students to enhance their portfolio with real-world experience. Over the course of the internship, the student may participate in:Understanding how a design system works and how it’s useful for both designers and developers.Coming up with creative and innovative improvements to the system.Gaining knowledge of usability, design standards, and interaction design.Creating low and high fidelity wireframes.Reviewing designs and implementation with other UX designers & web developers, and some front-end coding and web development.Learning to communicate with other designers & web developers (and help us improve that process where possible.)Learning the basics of accessibility and inclusive design and how they apply to digital products at the Board.Participating in design reviews, which builds presentation and design discussion skills.Getting your feet wet with web development – since a design system also benefits developers, this is an opportunity to learn how prototypes are implemented in a web environment with SharePoint and front-end coding techniques.QualificationsWe’re looking for someone:Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience Design (UX), or Interaction Design (IxD)Exposure to user experience (UX) curriculum and practiceGraduating August 2021 or laterUS citizenand who meets most of the requirements below:Usability researchInteraction design experienceWireframing and prototyping in low and high fidelityHTML, CSS, React and some SharePoint knowledge.Willingness to work with colleagues from many different disciplines and experience levels.Ability to articulate thoughts to design and technical staff, as well as stakeholders.Analytical, organizational, leadership, and communication skills, along with an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.We may request you to submit a portfolio of design work as part of the selection process for this opening.
