The Hingorani Laboratory investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) pathogenesis. The murine models of distinct genetic subtypes of pancreas cancer that we have developed form the basis of our integrated, systematic, and multidisciplinary research program. Our efforts are directed at identifying and overcoming stromal barriers to treatment (including elevated interstitial pressures, activated fibroblasts, and multiple mechanisms of immune suppression); identifying and disrupting molecular drivers of metastasis; and developing immune-based treatment strategies. Our ultimate aim is to take our discoveries and reduce them to practice in the clinic in order to radically transform the approach and prognosis for patients with this devastating disease.
This Research Technician I/II position represents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a passion for science to work and learn in a dynamic scientific environment while addressing important problems relevant for the successful treatment of cancer.
The research technician may be involved in all aspects of murine preclinical studies including but not limited to breeding, genotyping, ultrasound and other imaging techniques, drug treatments, and performing necropsies to obtain tissues for histology and cell lines. The technician may be involved in derivation, maintenance and study of primary cell lines and organoids; isolation of DNA, RNA, and proteins; as well as other techniques such as FACS sorting and expanding cells in vitro, analyzing cell phenotype and function using techniques including flow cytometry, proliferation assays, cytotoxicity assays, PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing, and ELISpot. Molecular techniques used in the lab include cloning, transfection/transduction of cell lines, gene targeting and northern and Southern blotting. Biochemical and cellular techniques include SDS-PAGE, western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. The technician will also assist with the also assist with the general running and organization of the laboratory, including ordering reagents and supplies, maintaining inventories, preparing solutions, stains, and reagents; operating and maintaining lab equipment, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Research Technician I: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or engineering and independent research experience outside of laboratory course work.
Research Technician II: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or engineering and a minimum of 2 years previous experience working in a laboratory.
- Mouse husbandry experience, including breeding, weaning, and genotyping is required
- Competitive candidates will also have experience with cell tissue culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques
- Experience with small animal surgeries and injections is highly desired
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to multi-task with precise attention to detail is especially critical
- Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office software
