The Bloom lab at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center has an opening for a research technician to assist with studies of how mutations to viral proteins affect recognition by antibodies and immunity. In the near-term, the scientist will focus on the impact of mutations to SARS-CoV-2. This is an exciting project that will shed light on basic principles of viral evolution and immunity and will also having immediate impacts on antibody therapeutics or vaccines.

- Work with graduate students and post-docs to perform deep mutational scanning experiments.
- Flow cytometry/FACS, deep sequencing library preparation, and possibly generation of mutant libraries.
- Virology experiments and computational analyses.
- Is independently responsible and accountable for design and implementation of a major project related to the research goals of the lab.
- Maintains communication with others in the scientific community regarding issues related to both the general project area and the specific research project
- Utilizes literature reviews, protocols, networking and prior laboratory experience to determine the most suitable methods and resources to be used in research.
- Summarize and write for publication or presentation the results of research projects, often as co-author or author. Write and edit reports of research.
- Responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory; may lead or supervise other laboratory personnel.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other scientists in the lab and beyond
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
Research Technician III
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field
- At least three to five years prior experience in scientific research
Research Technician IV
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, Master’s or PhD preferred
- Minimum of eight years prior experience in scientific research
- Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: flow cytometry/FACS, deep sequencing library preparation, generation of mutant libraries
