The Associate Director of the HBCU Program directly manages the HRC Foundation’s HBCU Inclusion Excellence Initiative: a national training and certification initiative advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion on HBCU’s, including the HBCU Seal of Excellence. The primary focus of the position is the HBCU LGBTQ+ Inclusion Excellence program, including outreach to HBCU leaders, technical assistance, data management,, survey review and website content. The position requires substantial direct consultation with HBCU leaders on LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and practices related to the seal of excellence process. The position also manages aspects of the National Training Program, including creation of virtual and in-person training content, training guides, and related events.
The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program (HBCU), and participates in Foundation meetings and projects.
This position is a temporary, full-time position ending approximately January 31, 2024. Possible extension depending on funding.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of the HBCU Program and external partners and consultants, on HBCU outreach strategies, survey revisions, and implementing other HBCU activities, including meetings, conferences, convening’s and publications, etc.
- Manage all aspects of the HRC Foundation’s HBCU Inclusion Excellence Initiative: a national training and certification initiative advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion on HBCUs technical and infrastructure needs, and HBCU Institutional Assessment survey creation and maintenance, training tracking processes.
- Manage HBCU IEP’s marketing and outreach efforts, including target identification, institutional research, implementation of communication efforts, analysis of results, and strategies for enhanced success.
- Draft or otherwise assist in preparation of HBCU IEP’s progress and annual reports.
- Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations about HBCU IEP, representing the HRC HBCU Program internally and externally, as needed.
- Develop other HBCU LGBTQ related resources and materials including special reports, webpages, blog posts, and events.
- Track current research and publications relevant to LGBTQ diversity & inclusion and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and experts in the field.
- Collaborate with internal and external colleagues on LGBTQ training related projects.
- Assist in providing day-to-day management to the HBCU Program including task assignments, regular check-ins, long-term goal-setting, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, conducting performance reviews, coaching, motivating, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience), with at least five years’ experience in project management, preferably in the field of higher education, specifically HBCUs.
- Experience with and knowledge of higher education LGBTQ diversity & inclusion programs.
- Skilled in system’s change, program development, implementation, analysis, and evaluation.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, including proficiency in developing reports and website content development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and web-based survey applications; high aptitude for database applications and experience preferred.
- Demonstrable success in organizing and managing projects which are multi-faceted and mission-driven.
- Strong commitment to HRC’s mission and goals, especially to advancing research and education that enhances the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people
- Ability to lead, model and embed, equity diversity and inclusion principles within the team and external relationships
- Flexibility with work schedule; must be willing to travel and work some evening and weekend hours. Ability to travel approximately 10% of work time.
