Job DescriptionThe Institute of International Education (IIE) is seeking a current student for a summer Thomas S. Johnson internship opportunity. The internships, established in honor of Thomas S. Johnson, Chairman Emeritus of IIE’s Board of Trustees, are designed to expose students to the day-to-day operations of a leading international education and exchange not-for-profit that values diversity equity and inclusion. IIE internships allow students to gain insight into the field of international education, learn about career opportunities and establish a network.This internship opportunity is within the Internal Communications team. A key part of our wider IIE Communications department, Internal Communications focuses on the needs of employees. The Internal Communications team works to inform, involve, and engage our workforce through a variety of methods and channels, including managing our intranet, global newsletters, as well as events such as webinars, town halls, and various team-building activities. As we enter year two of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdown, the Internal Communications team is currently working with our Human Resources department on an employee support initiative. This will involve offering new activities, programs, and resources intended further connect our global IIE community and focus on employee wellness. The intern will work with a designated supervisor on various aspects of the employee support initiative for the duration of the internship and complete the internship with a final project presentation. Essential Functions:Organizing and administering team building events and activities.Drafting internal communications around advertising for events and activities.Conducting relevant research for potential suppliers/experts/speakers.Designing, creating, and updating new areas on our intranet.Creating and editing promotional videos.Liaising with suppliers or vendors on matters such as scheduling and payments.Keeping track of costs and invoices.Internship period: Summer internships will take place between May 2021 and August 2021. Internships may be 8-10 weeks in duration up to 35 hours per week with core working hours 9am – 5pm EST Pay rate: $15.00 per hour. Job RequirementsEducation and Work Experience: A multidisciplinary undergraduate/graduate student matriculated at an accredited college or university. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:An interest in exploring the field of international education and exchange.Studying / interested in communications, human resources, or related fields.Good communication skills.Proficient in Microsoft office suiteTop notch organizational skills and attention to detail.Strong writing skills for digital media.Experience organizing and administering events.Video editing skills.Work Conditions & Physical Demands:Essential functions are performed in a remote setting. Interns will access IIE’s web-based systems using their own equipment and internet. Job demands may require long periods of sitting; telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interactions with other team members and external stakeholders.
