The See Forever Foundation and Maya Angelou Schools in Washington, DC are seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA member to support service learning. This VISTA member will work at our Maya Angelou Academy, located in New Beginnings Youth Development Center, the juvenile detention center serving DC youth in Laurel, Maryland. In this role, the VISTA will support the Maya Angelou Schools’ efforts to launch and develop service learning, social justice, and community service planning for students and to create a school culture emphasizing the importance of students serving as leaders in their communities.
The VISTA assignment is a one year term, starting August 30, 2021.
Specifically, we are looking for a candidate with strong organizational, leadership and technical skills that will help us in developing a school culture committed to service learning and social justice. This will be achieved through projects focused on the following areas:
· Develop and implement strategies to build a school culture committed to service learning, social justice, and leadership.
· Build community organization partnerships to support the school in providing quality volunteer opportunities for students.
· Support the growth and development of service-learning programming to teachers and program staff, including timeline, goals, themes, and resources.
