ABOUT THE PROGRAM/SYNOPSIS:
Northside Center for Child Development has created a high-quality Extended Day Services (EDS) and Summer Program. We are looking for Counselors/Group Leaders to provide childcare, recreational and educational services to school-age children including program participants with behavioral health and learning challenges. Other duties include, but are not limited to, supervision of children, working with a wide range of recreational and educational activities that are a part of the program.
POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A Counselor/Group Leader is a direct line staff member that helps participants develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills by providing support and care to participants in the afterschool and summer Full day program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing academic support and facilitating activities within the program for the assigned groups in accordance with the required Department of Youth and Community (DYCD) Development, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH) Bureau of Child Care, and OCFS School Age Child Care (SACC) regulations. Reports to Coordinator/ School Age Child Care (SACC) Director.
The Group Leader is responsible to supervise their assigned classroom in consultation with a team of Education professionals including the Program Manager/SACC Director, Education Specialist, Activity Specialists, and Fellow Counselors/Group Leaders.
A Counselor/Group Leader position must maintain accurate program documentation; adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, actively participate in aspects of staff development including bi-weekly team meetings and required regulatory training.
GROUP LEADER QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· College Bachelor’s degree candidate with demonstrated preference/passion/interest in the field of Education, Psychology, Social Work and/or youth development.
· 2 years of teaching and afterschool experience and/or willingness to work with children with early childhood educational or emotional special needs.
· Highly motivated, detail-oriented, ability to work collaboratively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
· Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
· CPR and First Aid Certification a plus
COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· High School diploma or its equivalent.
· 2 years of direct experience working with children under 13 years of age.
· Eager to work in a fast-paced, arts, and education-focused environment.
· Integrity, professional discretion, and professionalism.
Job Type: Part Time/15-20 Hours a week/Non-exempt hourly position/
In-person work including Facility Working with Remote Learning Platforms i.e. Google Classroom
Working Days & Hours: Monday through Friday; 3:00pm- 6:00pm Weekday program during the school year (school pick up at 2/2:30pm); 8:00am-6:00pm on Full Days Scheduled Holidays during the school year.
Start Date: Fall 2021
Salary: $15-$20: *Commensurate with Experience Group Leaders.
