Philmont hires over 1,300 summer staff to provide backcountry programs, food service, retail operations, training opportunities, maintenance, conservation, ranching, retail, medical services, museum/archive management, and support/administrative positions (essentially standing up a small city every summer). The majority of positions coincide with the summer season, from late May through mid-August. Base salaries begin at $1,190/mo or higher with room & board included.
The Philmont Staff is a diverse group of people from all around the United States and abroad coming together to “Deliver Wilderness Adventures That Last a Lifetime!”
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship, pass a background check, and be willing to become a member of the Boy Scouts of America while employed (though previous Scouting experience is not required). Applicants available for the entirety of the summer season are given preference.
