Youth Program CoordinatorStatus: Full-time / Exempt Department: Education & TrainingReports To: VP of Education & Training Approved: April 2021JOB SUMMARY Under the direction and general supervisor of the VP of Education, coordinates and implements Teen Council (TC), a peer-led sex education program for high school aged youth. Recruits and interviews TC members; plans and leads an annual TC retreat; provides training and supervision of TC members; markets, schedules, and attends (virtually or in-person) all TC presentations in schools and youth-serving agencies. Develops and delivers education and professional training programs about human sexuality and reproductive health to youth, professionals, and parents. Provides effective outreach, delivery, and evaluation of sex education and professional training programs. Markets programs to teachers, community service providers, parents, and youth. Develops and maintains professional contacts within the education and service community to promote program opportunities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Teen Council (TC) program, including: recruitment of new members; logistics and implementation of the TC annual retreat; training members in human sexuality content and public speaking skills; supporting TC members in presenting sex education lessons to their peers.2. Empowers TC members to grow as educators, public speakers, and emerging adults.3. Contributes to soliciting youth voice and guidance related to affiliate and/or Education & Training Department programs and goals.4. Utilizes all available Peer Education Institute (PEI) resources to facilitate the TC program to fidelity. Responds to PEI requests for data in a timely manner. Schedules PEI site visit and adheres to PEI guidelines.5. Collects, enters, analyzes, and reports data related to educational programming and professional training.6. Develops, markets, and facilitates accurate and engaging in-person and virtual educational programming about human sexuality and reproductive health statewide to youth and adults. 7. Develops, markets, and facilitates high-quality in-person and virtual professional training for teachers, community service providers, and other professionals, including PPDE staff.8. Responds promptly to all requests for education & training.9. Models a positive approach and excellent customer service skills. Promotes a spirit of teamwork among all staff.10. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education / work experience required in social work, public health, education, gender studies or relevant field.2. Minimum one year experience facilitating youth groups, youth programs, youth leadership and/or peer education groups. Two years’ experience preferred.3. Minimum one year experience providing education to youth and young adults.4. Sexual and reproductive health knowledge.5. Experience with outreach, recruitment, and relationship building.6. Bi-lingual, Spanish-speaking and/or ASL proficiency preferred.Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in various formats required. Must be highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented with the ability to set and meet deadlines. Must possess strong planning skills.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, procedure manuals and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals and correspondence. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening and interpersonal relationship skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and interact comfortably with a diverse group of clients, staff and volunteers in a non-judgmental, professional and sensitive manner. Strong demonstrated presentation and public speaking skills a plus.Mathematical Skills: Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Computer Skills: Excellent keyboarding skills with high level of accuracy required. Proficiency in Internet usage and Microsoft Office essential including but not limited to the following programs: Word, Excel, Access (or other similar database system) Publisher, and PowerPoint. Must possess capacity to learn software programs required for specific position and access electronic communications, including e-mail, Extranet and Internet.
