Interested in writing for kids? Scholastic STEAM magazines are seeking to expand our stable of freelancers. We’d love to work with journalists/educators who have an interest in writing for a young audience. Our six classroom magazines cover science, health, art, and math for elementary, middle, and high school readers. We use current events and real-world data to make connections to what students are learning in school. Our articles cover a range of topics that excite students, often accompanied by eye-catching photographs/art. Each of our issues includes short news stories (100-150 words) and longer features (500-1,000 words). Pay is approximately $1/word across magazines.

Fill out the linked form, and we’ll reach out if we have a piece that’s a good fit for you! Tell us a bit about yourself and the types of things you’re interested in writing about, along with a resume and two or three of your most kid-friendly writing samples. If you have any ideas that you think would interest young readers, you can also submit one or two brief pitches!

Any questions? E-mail Jess Romeo at jromeo@scholastic.com.
