About Scout.FM

Scout.FM is an independent artist development and music discovery company focused on helping emerging artists build sustainable careers while maintaining their independence.

Our work spans artist development, management, release strategy, A&R, content, branding, editorial, audience development, and music discovery. We also operate an independent editorial platform highlighting emerging artists, new releases, live shows, and the communities surrounding them.

About the Internship

Scout.FM is looking for a Music & Artist Development Intern interested in gaining hands-on experience within the independent music industry.

This is an educational internship designed to expose students to the different areas involved in developing an artist’s career. Interns will learn through a combination of direct mentorship, supervised projects, research assignments, campaign observation, and participation in active Scout.FM projects.

Because Scout.FM is a small and growing company, interns will have the opportunity to see how artist development decisions are made in real time and gain exposure to multiple sides of the music business.

What You’ll Learn & Work On

Under direct supervision, interns may:

  • Learn how artist development and release campaigns are planned and organized
  • Research emerging artists, music scenes, trends, playlists, media outlets, venues, creators, and industry opportunities
  • Assist with supervised A&R and music discovery research
  • Learn how artists are positioned through branding, storytelling, EPKs, content, and release strategy
  • Participate in campaign planning exercises for active and upcoming releases
  • Assist with research related to press, playlists, live opportunities, collaborations, and potential partnerships
  • Learn how artist teams organize release information, creative assets, content, and campaign materials
  • Contribute ideas for Scout.FM social media, editorial coverage, and artist campaigns
  • Gain exposure to music distribution, publishing, streaming platforms, artist management, and other areas of music business operations
  • Observe and participate in selected artist and team meetings when appropriate
  • Receive feedback on research, campaign ideas, writing, and other internship projects

Assignments are intended to complement Scout.FM’s existing work while providing practical education and mentorship. Interns will not be expected to independently manage artists, campaigns, or essential company operations.

Who We’re Looking For

Previous music industry experience is not required.

Strong candidates will:

  • Be currently enrolled in a college or university program
  • Have a genuine interest in independent and emerging music
  • Regularly discover new artists and music on their own
  • Be interested in artist development, A&R, marketing, management, music journalism, content, or another area of the music industry
  • Be familiar with platforms such as Spotify, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital music platforms
  • Be organized, curious, reliable, and comfortable communicating ideas
  • Be willing to research topics they may not already understand
  • Have strong instincts around music, culture, social media, and emerging trends
  • Be proactive and willing to contribute ideas

Experience with tools such as Canva, Notion, Google Workspace, CapCut, or similar platforms is helpful but not required.

Internship Structure

  • Part-time: approximately 5–10 hours per week
  • Duration: approximately 10–12 weeks
  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Flexible and designed to accommodate academic commitments
  • Compensation: Unpaid educational internship
  • Academic Credit: Scout.FM is happy to work with a student’s college or university to facilitate academic credit when available

Participation in the internship does not guarantee or imply an offer of employment upon completion.

What You’ll Gain

The goal of the internship is to provide practical exposure to how an independent artist development company operates.

Students can expect to leave with a stronger understanding of artist development, A&R, release strategy, artist management, content strategy, digital marketing, editorial, EPK development, streaming platforms, music industry research, and campaign planning.

Most importantly, you’ll get an inside look at how promising music is developed into a larger artist career.

Discover. Listen. Connect.
