Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the retirement saving and income solutions market, seeks Interns to join the IT Department. Security Benefit has been dedicated to helping clients plan and save for retirement for nearly five decades. Over the last several years it has become a top provider of retirement products and services through a nationwide network of independent financial representatives. Interns will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas.  We are seeking interns to join us during the Spring, Summer, and Fall Semesters of 2020. As a note, over the last two years, Security Benefit has successfully supported students completing internships in the disciplines of Application Development, Reporting /Analytics, AWS work and Cybersecurity.General Accountabilities: Interns will work under the supervision of an IT Leader and will assist in developing technology solutions to meet business needs and/or develop IT capabilities.  Primary duties and responsibilities: ·        Attend meetings with business and IT users to help with gathering functional and non-functional requirements.·        Perform application development and activities in support & development of databases.·        Assist with Proof of Concept projects, researching/evaluating vendor products to meet business and IT capabilities.·        Document technical standards, create templates (e.g. within AWS) and any appropriate documentation.Qualifications:·        Full-time student in Computer Science, EE, Information Systems or Data/Business Analytics·        Undergraduate or Graduate Student·        A quick learner with motivation to learn more about new technologies combined with  good listening skills and detail orientation ·        Good communication skills and able to work with a lot of different teams·        Someone looking for hands on experienceTechnical Skills (some examples—not all required for each internship): ·        Working knowledge of languages such as Java, PHP, Python, C++ or C#·        Working knowledge of RDBMS like MS SQL. Proficiency in writing SQL queries·        Working knowledge of ETL and a good understanding of Object Oriented Programming·        Exposure to Business Intelligence/Data mining toolsEligibility:Students eligible for an internship must be current full-time students. Students working during the school year will work approximately 10-19 hours a week.  SB will offer a flexible schedule to allow students to focus on coursework while gaining real work experience during their internship.
