Customer Technical Development provides application development support and is the technical
liaison team between these market customers and R&D efforts.
The CTD Co-op student is an integral part of the team, working alongside engineers and their clients to provide application specific polymer testing, product development support, failure mode and root cause analysis, and development of data for technical marketing documentation.
Co-op students working with Solvay’s CTD can expect the following to be a part of their experience with Solvay:
CTD co-op students work on innovative, hands-on projects. These projects can include
applications like filtration membranes for industrial and drinking water, light weighting automotive
design via polymer gears, and making more ergonomic and easily sterilizable medical tools. Over
the course of three semesters, students are given progressively more complex projects and
significant responsibility. Students will receive in-depth exposure to processing methods such as
injection molding, extrusion, and 3D printing. Students can expect to be introduced to part and mold design concepts through Solvay’s CAE Team.
CTD co-op students are given the opportunity to work with a large, diverse team of engineers
specializing in a variety of market segments. Through these relationships, co-op students become a part of the Solvay culture of learning, developing unique knowledge concerning the high performance materials industry. Engineers provide insightful guidance on projects, career aspirations, and personal development. Solvay uses this program as an important source for finding and developing talent.
Education & Position Requirements
• Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer/Plastics
Engineering, Material Science or Chemical Engineering, or a related field and have at least
three semesters of coursework remaining
• Location: Solvay’s North American R&I Headquarters in Alpharetta GA
• Three semesters (alternate rotations) beginning in Spring 2022
• Must be a US Citizen or a permanent resident
• Maintain a safe work environment for self and others
