SRI International is an independent, non-profit research institute, delivering unique, scientist-driven solutions for the world’s important challenges. SRI’s Advanced Technology and Systems Division (ATSD) performs research across a wide range of disciplines, from quantum sensing, novel material development, and optics and photonics, to advanced optical, radar, and imaging systems.
SRI’s Atomic Molecular Optics (AMO) group at SRI’s Princeton NJ campus currently has an intern opportunity for the Fall 2021 semester. The candidate will focus on supporting the design, fabrication, and implementation of experimental test-sets and advanced prototypes for applications in optical and quantum sensing systems, including tabletop-based atom-laser systems used for field sensing. In particular, the projects may include contributing to laser and optics alignment, RF equipment operation, and data acquisition, as well as involvement in CAD design, finite-element and numerical modeling. The internship will involve working closely with SRI staff, providing hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art AMO physics concepts and techniques. Candidate should have some experience in instrumentation, test-and-measurement equipment, and coding.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Physics track or equivalent. Course work in modern physics, optics and associated lab experience preferred.
- Due to government requirements candidates must be a U.S. Citizen
- Experience with CAD, finite-element modeling and coding a plus
- Candidate must have a desire for hands-on activity
At SRI, we prioritize the health and wellbeing of our employees, families, and friends above all else. In response to the increased transmissibility with recent variants, all SRI Employees must be fully vaccinated and provide proof thereof as a condition of continued or future employment with SRI.
