The Avery Center, formerly Free Our Girls was founded in 2014 to respond to the lack of services available to sex trafficking victims and the lack of sex trafficking prevention education in northern Colorado. The Avery Center currently provides 1) a job training and financial literacy program to address the primary need for economic self-sufficiency as victims escape trafficking operations; 2) crisis intervention and safety planning services; 3) prevention education programs for at-risk youth; and 4) a robust outreach program through social media and a network of current and previously trafficked women. VISTA members will help to transform the current landscape of sex trafficking victim services by overhauling key outreach efforts, launching a capital campaign, and assisting with a re-branding effort aimed to improve accessibility for all victims of sex trafficking. The Avery Center is located near the University of Northern Colorado campus in Greeley, Colorado. Greeley is the county seat, and a university town situated on the Northeastern Front Range of Colorado. Every year, Greeley is home to the “Greeley Stampede” Rodeo, the “Blues Jam” music festival, the Greeley Arts Picnic, and “Friday Fest,” a free outdoor concert hosted weekly throughout the summer. Just an hour’s drive north of Denver, east of Rocky Mountain National Park, and south of Wyoming, Weld County is a fast-growing and popular area with gorgeous views of the Rockies from the comfort of acres of rolling farmland.
