The main function of these positions is to assist with the administration of the Hazardous Waste Generation Fee billing and collection operations in order to carry out Chapter 70.95E Revised Code of Washington. Each year, our program receives calls and emails from businesses who have questions about this fee. You will help our program by answering these inquiries. In turn, this helps businesses understand the importance of identifying their hazardous wastes and the importance of proper waste management.
In this role you will use your attention to detail to process fee waiver and exemption forms, and use customer service skills to respond to phone call and e-mail inquiries from fee payers.
What will you do?
- Respond to phone calls and e-mails from businesses regarding the Hazardous Waste Generation Fee.
- Explain statutory and regulatory requirements, and administrative policies and procedures.
- Research, determine eligibility, and process requests for waivers and exemptions.

Please note: During Stay Home, Stay Healthy, staff are working a combination of in-office and/or telework based on position and business need. These positions are expected to work in the office up to 1 day a week.

Option 1:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of technical or third clerical-level experience in an environmental agency or office.
Experience may include:
- Answering calls and emails, and referring inquiries to the appropriate staff person.
- Collecting fees or documents from the public and maintaining records
- Receiving and distributing mail, messages, or records
- Entering and retrieving data in an electronic system
Option 2:
- One (1) year of college-level coursework (30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter credits) in environmental, physical, or natural sciences, or closely related field.
- One (1) year of technical or third clerical-level experience in an environmental agency or office.
Experience may include:
- Answering calls and emails, and referring inquiries to the appropriate staff person.
- Collecting fees or documents from the public and maintaining records
- Receiving and distributing mail, messages, or records
- Entering and retrieving data in an electronic system
Option 3:
Two (2) years of college level coursework (60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter credits) in environmental, physical, or natural sciences, or closely related field.
