Outdoor Educator Associate Positions
Educator’s Ally (EA) is a highly personalized search and placement agency connecting educators, administrators, and senior leaders with K-12 private and independent schools nationwide. We are currently assisting schools throughout the country with their searches for entry level Outdoor Educator roles.
Position Overview
Outdoor and experiential educator roles involve teaching and organizing outdoor education activities, as well as overseeing aspects equipment management, safety procedures, and training. Successful candidates must embrace student-centered pedagogy, model curiosity and a desire for professional growth, and exhibit a desire to build positive and meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents. Depending on the school and program activities may involve hiking, teaching adventure education, rock climbing, canoeing, backpacking.
Timeline: We are already working on searches for fall ’24! Most searches finish up by the spring.
Expectations & Essential Duties
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist in planning and leading outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and team-building exercises.
- Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Plan and organize events, competitions, and other activities
- Teach outdoor education classes
- Coordinate with vendors and partner organizations to deliver and execute program components
Desired experience may include:
- An undergraduate degree is required
- Working knowledge of environmental science and best practices
- Excellent intellectual flexibility and adaptability in response to changing environmental conditions and other events that necessitate schedule changes
- Demonstrate experience leading groups and/or working with young adults
- Demonstrate an understanding of risk management and competency navigating challenging environments.
- Experience with outdoor/experiential education or participation in a NOLS or similar program
- Passion for the natural world and environmental education.
- Wilderness First Responder certification, or the ability to obtain
