The primary purpose of the Public Health Representative, Per Diem position is to support all aspects of research efforts in a study of breast cancer survivors in New Jersey, including subject recruitment, case/participant scheduling, conducting in-person home interviews for data/biospecimen collection, maintaining databases, and monitoring the progress toward achieving study goals. Requires working some evenings and weekends and extensive travel within the Gateway Region in New Jersey to conduct home or site visits for data collection and/or to participate in recruitment activities.
Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related field or Associate’s Degree plus one year of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Assistant or relevant work experience required. Fluent (written, verbal) in Spanish and English required. Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Assistant Certification preferred with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in phlebotomy and handling of biospecimens preferred. Candidate must be highly motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English; must be a team player; must be highly attentive to detail and very organized. Must have the ability to motivate and recruit participants into the study. Valid driver license and having a vehicle to travel to home visits required. Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends), as needed, to reach and complete surveys with study subjects required. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate noise. Potential exposure to saliva and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory.
1. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, responsible for scheduling and conducting in-person study at participants’ homes for data/biospecimen collection using structured questionnaires, organizing telephone schedule and call records to participants, attend study meetings and performing related duties as needed.
2. Maintains participant’s records in electronic database and ensures their confidentiality.
3. Participates in study meetings.
4. Participates in all phases of the study and ensures compliance with the study protocol.
5. Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey core values.
